The MAC home office was recently contacted by the VA Medical Center in Saginaw asking for our assistance in urging our members to apply with EmpowerChiro chiropractic network and become eligible to begin providing chiropractic care to Veterans in their local area. We are not encouraging you either way on whether or not you should join this network. That is a decision that each chiropractor must make for him- or herself, after answering the key questions that doctors need to consider when deciding whether to join – or not join – any insurance network.

As part of your decision-making process, we encourage you to contact EmpowerChiro’s Beth Snyder at (800) 819-9571 and get the answers to two additional important questions:

  1. Are you accepting new chiropractors in my area? If the answer is yes,
  2. Is there a fee to join your network? If so, is there just an initial fee or is there also a monthly or annual fee?

Once you get the answers to these questions, as well as obtain the usual information you evaluate in determining whether to join an insurance network, you will be able to make an informed, sound business decision about joining EmpowerChiro.

It is important to note that there has been a fair amount of confusion surrounding the switchover to TriWest’s management of the VA’s Community Care contract. We have heard from some doctors who assume that they are all set and do not need to enroll with EmpowerChiro because they are currently getting authorizations from TriWest. This is not necessarily the case, and, in the next month or two, doctors who do not go through the process of enrolling with EmpowerChiro will no longer receive authorizations from TriWest. This is because TriWest is currently sending authorizations using a list of doctors who registered with Health Net to provide services through the Veterans Choice Program (VCP). The VCP program is ending and the VA is in the process of switching over to using the VA Community Care Network for non-VA care referrals.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact Seth Anderson at the MAC at (517) 367-2225 or Patrice Olivo at the Saginaw VA at (989) 497-2500, ext. 13216.
