With the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccine, we have gotten questions from a number of chiropractors across the state about where chiropractic offices fall on the vaccine hierarchy and when they may be able to get the vaccine. We have also received requests for help from a couple of county health departments in contacting chiropractors in their counties with information on obtaining a COVID-19 vaccine. When asked by a county health department, we have assisted them in delivering this message to chiropractors in their county/area, while also noting the official position of the MAC (see below).
If you or a member of your staff is interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, check with your local health department. On their websites, many have a dedicated area for signing up to receive the vaccine. If your county’s website does not have such an option, contact your health department for more information.
The official position of the MAC on vaccinations and other patient choice issues, as voted by the Board of Directors, is as follows:
MAC Board of Directors Statement on Patient Choice
The Michigan Association of Chiropractors supports Michigan health care consumers in their right to choose and make informed decisions regarding patient care for both the individual and their family and children. No health care procedure is without potential risk. It is essential that patients educate themselves on both the benefits and the risks associated with each procedure in order to properly exercise their freedom of choice in making health care decisions. The Michigan Association of Chiropractors opposes mandated or compulsory medical procedures of any kind, as they infringe the individual’s ability to fully exercise their freedom of choice in health care decisions, without any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress, or other form of coercion.
